This week, I’m giving some advice to a listener who wants to know how to move on from a breakup and heal.
Now, this is an interesting topic, because there is a lot of conventional wisdom in the world about “time heals all wounds.”
However, that isn’t necessarily true. After all, I think we all know at least one person out there who is still bitter about their ex or their breakup or even men or women YEARS after their breakup.
Clearly, time hasn’t healed that wound, but instead it has left a nasty and ugly scar.
That’s not what I want for you.
So, if you’re going through a breakup, then this is an episode for you.
…Even if you want to get back together with your ex.
Because, firstly, you can’t bring all that resentment and hurt from the breakup into a new relationship with your ex.
And, secondly, because you don’t want to get your old relationship back anyway.
This might seem strange, but didn’t your old relationship have problems that eventually led to the breakup in the first place?
So, you don’t want that relationship back anyway.
If you get back together with your ex, you want a NEW relationship. Just with the same person.
And that means that you need to get over the old relationship.
